Eleanor Finn
March 24, 2022
Eleanor Mary Bernazzani Finn passed away peacefully the evening of Friday, March 4 with family at her side in Dunedin, Florida. Born on October 13, 1928 in Roslindale to Mary and Augustine Bernazzani, Ellie possessed a love for family, her Faith, and all things social. After graduating from Roslindale High School, Ellie worked briefly at her uncles’ Boston jewelry shop. She went on to work for a publishing company, doctors’ offices and lawyers’ offices. Surrounded by an extended Italian family, Ellie met her Irish-Scotch husband- John Finn-the love of her life for over 65 years, at the Arbiter Club in Jamaica Plain. Mom and Dad both loved to dance. John, aka Jackie, had just been discharged from the Army after actively participating in the Korean War. They courted at Nantasket and Onset Beaches. Ellie and Jack married October 6th, 1956, at Holy Name Church in West Roxbury and honeymooned in the Poconos. Eleanor and Jack raised three daughters: Judy, Nancy and Laurel plus a dog named Frisky. Although Eleanor was definitely a “City Girl,” she courageously endured camping and fishing trips with Jack and the girls to Swift River, Cape Breton Island, Prince Edward Island and New England states. Not embracing cooking, Mom enjoyed going out to eat, playing cards, and shopping. Eleanor and Jack could be found at the Pleasant Café most Saturday evenings. Mom loved walking, especially at Nantasket Beach and visiting her relatives in Barnstable and Swifts Beach in Wareham. She took pleasure in coordinating the local Girl Scout troop with her longtime neighborhood friend, Eileen Burke. There were many pleasurable coffee hours with neighbors; you could always find her surrounded by family and friends. Ellie and Jackie moved to Cedarville after spending several seasons at Indian Head Resort. Ellie loved living at Kingsbridge Shores, frequently taking strolls along the shore. In recent years, they made Dunedin, Florida their home and took full advantage of the sun and fun. Eleanor is survived by her husband John of Dunedin. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Judith Finn-Hatfield and husband Kenneth, Nancy Langevin and husband Peter, Laurel Bonaccorso and husband Anthony; grandchildren Christopher Langevin and wife Jessica, Nicole Langevin, Victoria Hatfield, Amanda Bonaccorso and Emily Bonaccorso, as well as Adeline Langevin, her great grandchild. Internment will take place at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at a later date. Memorial donations can be sent to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital (st.jude.org).
