Albert Melvin Hinson's Obituary
When Albert was born, The Clearwater Sun had been holding an annual contest for the first baby born in Pinellas County in the new-year. The contest offered many prizes including a baby china ware set, a Hollywood bassinet, a baby blanket, a playpen, six theater passes, a sterling baby cup, and a case of baby food. Albert was born January 1, 1950 at 1:03 a.m. at Mease Hospital in Dunedin, Florida and was the winner of the contest.
Albert's first job after graduation from high school was at Metal Industries, Inc. in Clearwater making air conditioner vents.
Albert enjoyed visiting with friends and relatives and singing. His favorite vacations were to the North Carolina Mountains.
A Life-Changing time for Albert was when he joined the U.S. Army in 1970.
In the Army, Albert became an Airborne Sensory Specialist. He operated surveillance systems on board a Grumman OV-1 Mohawk observation and attack aircraft.
Albert was presented The Air Medal in 1970 and the Citation stated that Albert distinguished himself by meritorious achievement, while participating in sustained aerial flight, in support of combat ground forces in the Republic of Vietnam. During November and December 1970, he actively participated in more that twenty-five aerial missions over hostile territory in support of operations against communist aggression. During all of these flights, he displayed the highest order of air discipline and acted in accordance with the best traditions of the service. By his determination to accomplish his mission, in spite of the hazards inherent in repeated aerial flights over hostile territory and by his outstanding degree of professionalism and devotion to duty, he has brought credit upon himself, his organization, and the United States Army.
A Graveside Service will be celebrated with Military Honors at 11:00AM on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at Dunedin Cemetery, 2400 Keene Rd, Dunedin, FL 34698.
