Alethea L Meagher's Obituary
Alethea “Lee” Meagher, 89, of Seminole, Florida, passed away Monday, November 24th, 2018 at The Vineyard in Largo, Florida, where she received the best of care.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 5th, 2019 at Saint Jerome Catholic Church, 10895 Hamlin Boulevard, Largo, 33774, in the Chapel, with reception for sharing memories following.
Lee was born September 10, 1929, in Teaneck, New Jersey to Keith and Margaret Lyder, their only child. As a girl, she had a lot of friends, did well in school and played tennis with schoolmates and her dad. She graduated from Teaneck High School in 1947. She graduated from Wells College in Aurora, New York in 1951, earning a BA in Spanish. She worked in publishing in in New York City, primarily for Doubleday, overseeing the profitable Book of the Month Club.
In August 1961, she married Raymond Meagher of Brooklyn, New York, in Teaneck, New Jersey. Initially, she stayed home to raise her children, often helping out at their schools, living first in Elmhurst, Queens until 1964 when the young family moved to Demarest, New Jersey where they remained until 1972. The family then moved to Seminole, Florida where Lee continued to help in the elementary and middle school libraries of her children and enthusiastically played tennis and bridge even after returning to the workforce in 1981. She was employed in a variety of administrative assignments where she proved herself invaluable, particularly at her last job at Commercial Lawn Care where she worked for over ten years.
all the while, she was very attentive to the needs of her aging parents who had moved to Florida as well. She was active in the American Association of University Women and the Wells College Alumni Association for years, holding offices in both organizations and making many new friends. As she grew older, she enjoyed reading and spending time with friends, children and grandchildren as well as playing tennis up to the age of 83. She was helpful, kind and understanding all of her life. She gave the last of her strength in taking care of her husband Raymond Meagher, who passed away January 22nd of 2018.
Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn Stuelke of Seminole, her son, Steve Meagher of Whittier, California, 2 grandchildren, Jimmy Stuelke and Elenore Meagher; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
