Alice R Bruns' Obituary
RAMSEY BRUNS, Alice loving widow of R. Stewart Bruns Jr., died Nov. 13, 2015 at age 105. Born in Hacken-sack, NJ on May 27, 1910, she was the daughter of Al-ice Huyler Ramsey, the first woman to drive a car across the United States in 1909, and of John Rathbone Ram-sey, lawyer, County Clerk, and U.S. Congressman. Alice attended Bradford Academy in Massachusetts and gradu-ated from Vassar College in 1931 where she was elected Phi Beta Kappa in her junior year. She was fluent in four languages: French, German, Italian, and Latin and earned a pilot’s license. Throughout her life, she was involved in many volunteer activities, chairing the boards of several organizations. For Vassar, Al-ice was president of the Essex Country Club and later served on the College’s Board of Trustees for six years as the Alumnae Fund Chairman. She is survived by two nephews, a great-nephew, a sister-in-law, four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and her good friend and aide, Bibi. Burial will be in the Hacken-sack Cemetery in New Jersey.
