Alphonse Fiore's Obituary
Alphonse “Al” Fiore, 92, of Clearwater, FL, formerly of Bethlehem, PA, passed away on April 13. Al was the devoted husband of Luisa (Caccaviello) Fiore, with whom he shared 68 years of marriage. He was the only child of John and Carmela Fiore. Al and Luisa were both born in Brooklyn Hospital, in the same year- a coincidence that marked the beginning of a lifelong connection.
He graduated from North Carolina State in 1957 with a degree in engineering and played goalie for the varsity soccer team. He was commissioned as a Lieutenant with the U.S. Army ROTC. That same year, he began his career with Bethlehem Steel, where he rose to Superintendent of Construction at the Southside Plant. He played a key role in the highly intensive Basic Oxygen Furnace construction project. Al retired in 1985- after 28 years as a dedicated employee. Following his retirement, Al continued serving his community as a Building Inspector and Zoning Enforcement Officer for Hanover Township, Northampton County.
A devout Catholic, Al was a longtime parishioner of Notre Dame of Bethlehem and a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. He was a devoted family man, a beloved Little League coach, and an avid sports fan—loyal to the Mets, Giants, and Rangers before he enthusiastically supported Tampa Bay teams when he moved to Florida in 2020. With a passion for local youth sports, he co-owned East Penn Sporting Goods in Bethlehem, where he built lasting relationships with athletes, schools and coaches.
Al is survived by his loving wife, Luisa; his children, John (Anne) of Bethlehem and James (Karelle) of St Petersburg; his grandchildren, Mark (Emily), Maria (John), Eric, Christopher, and Brielle; and his great-grandchildren, Leo and Jack.
