Angela Tavoularis' Obituary
Angela Tavoularis of Clearwater, Florida passed away on September 21st, 2023, at Mease Countryside Hospital in Safety Harbor, FL.
Angela was born on June 1st, 1936, in her village of Apidia in Lakonia, Greece to
Fr. Michalis Leotsakos and Panagiota Leotsakou.
Angela Tavoularis spent her first 16 years of life living in her village with her father who was a priest, her mother, and multiple siblings. During this time, she learned what it meant to be an Orthodox Christian, and how to take care of your family. She watched and learned from her mother as she took care of so many children each and every day. She also experienced great tragedy during this time, living during the war in Greece, and witnessing the tragic loss of some of her siblings.
At 16 years old, she left home by herself and headed to Montreal, Canada. It was there that she spent the next couple of years working and writing letters to and from her family. Her parents sent her a picture of a young man in the Greek army that they thought would be a good fit for her to marry.
Later, this young man, Panagiotis Tavoularis met Angela at a train station in Montreal, Canada and on November 9th, 1957, they both said, “I Do”.
During their time in Canada, Angela worked as a seamstress and Panagiotis as a custom tailor. They also welcomed two beautiful children during this time. Angela and Peter both missed Greece, so they decided to move back. However, it was different from when they left so they moved back to Canada. In the hopes of bettering their life for them and their children, they moved to Chicago, Illinois. Years later, they moved to Clearwater, Florida, where they started their own business called “Peter the Tailor”, which they had for several years.
Angela Tavoularis was not only a wife, a sibling, and a daughter, but she was also a mother, a grandmother, and a great-grandmother. She was a beautiful person that truly loved everyone unconditionally. She had compassion for those around her and was always there for you. God was her strength in everything she did, and she relied heavily on her faith to carry her through life. She was a strong and tough woman, yet also so gentle, caring, and thoughtful. You could feel her love for you a mile away, and she never let you forget it. She was truly special to everyone that met her.
Angela is survived by her daughter Despina Diamantakos and her husband Peter of Dunedin, FL; her son Artemis Tavoularis and his wife Paige of Palm Harbor, FL; her brothers Giannis Leotsakos of Athens, Greece, Konstantinos Leotsakos of Athens, Greece; her sister Hrisafia Leotsakou Capouleas of Victoria, Australia; her five grandchildren, James Diamantakos and his wife Georgia of Oldsmar, FL, Angela Kaminsky and her husband Albie of St. Petersburg FL, Peter Tavoularis and his wife Kaitlin of Tarpon Springs, FL, Michael Tavoularis of Palm Harbor FL, and Sara Tavoularis-Goff and her husband Dallas of Tarpon Springs, FL; her eight great-grandchildren; as well as many extended family members and other loved ones.
She is now reunited in eternal peace with her beloved husband, Panagiotis Tavoularis, her father
Michalis Leotsakos, her mother Panagiota Leotsakou, and several of her siblings.
A wake service will be held on October 6th, 2023, at Moss Feaster Funeral Home in Dunedin, FL from 6-8pm. Fr. Jim from Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Clearwater, FL will be speaking at 7pm.
The family of Angela Tavoularis will then be taking her home to Greece for the funeral service. She will be laid to rest in her home village of Apidia, Lakonia, Greece with her late husband Panagiotis Tavoularis.
