Anita G. Morneault's Obituary
A Very Long Life, Very Well Lived
Anita G. Morneault, age 106, of Dunedin, Florida passed away peacefully on July 7, 2026. She was born in Madawaska, Maine to Mary (Bouchard) and Joseph Gagnon. She spent her early childhood in Maine before venturing alone to Hartford, Connecticut in 1938 with only a nickel in her pocket. Anita loved to dance and met her soon to be husband, Albert A. Morneault, at a dancehall; they married in 1941.
She and Albert had 5 children: 2 boys and 3 girls and provided a home and guidance to several nieces and nephews who relocated to Connecticut from Maine. After working at various medical facilities in the area she retired from the Newington Veterans Administration Hospital and moved to Florida where she lived in a community with her sister and nephew. She enjoyed daily walks, puzzling, gardening, baking, growing orchids, bowling, and playing cards and one gin and tonic daily. She was renowned by her family and friends for her homemade pies.
Our family both mourns and celebrates more than a century of a life well lived, a life few realize and even less likely to enjoy as fully as this family matriarch did. Her quiet comments, subtle laughter, and continuous smiles throughout her last birthday celebration at 106 demonstrated how much she still enjoyed a party, especially with many of her family's generations present. To us it was evident how much she was still in command: so staunchly independent, opinionated, and still somewhat sassy.
She is survived by her daughters: Therese N. Squillacote of Farmington, CT; Anne M. Theriault of Clearwater, FL; and Patricia M. Morea (Richard) of Dunedin, FL as well as 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews deeply loved but too numerous to name.
She was predeceased by her husband, Albert, of 45 years and her sons: Gerald C. Morneault and Phillip R. Morneault.
She will be remembered for her quiet, consistent support, and love for her ever-growing family.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in her name to your local Hospice chapter or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
Services will be held in Bristol, CT. Arrangements by Funk Funeral Home,
