Mrs. Turner was a role model for how to let faith and family be a priority. She was the ultimate mom and as my sister wrote, “an angel on Earth.”
So many of my childhood memories involve Mrs. Turner. (She signed her cards “love Ann and her family” but she was always Mrs. Turner to me). When I think of her, I remember about her smile, her giggle, and her kind, gentle way of speaking and treating others. So many things remind me of her such as kitties, Mrs. Turner blue (light blue), her beautifully decorated baked goods, going for walks around the block with our families, and how much she loved celebrating Christmas with lots of decorations and the biggest live Christmas tree that was miraculously displayed through the months of December and January. Christmas and Halloween always meant that our families would visit each others’ houses. My family’s visits to the Turner house every Christmas Eve are one of my favorite memories. We would hurry to get to the Turner house before she would leave for mass. One funny memory I have is one Christmas Eve afternoon, she called out to one of her children as that person was walking out the door, ‘It’s Jesus’ birthday, don’t be late for mass.” I am so grateful to have so many memories of her. They all involve a smile.
