Aurora Quiroga Alford, “Meemaw”, 87 passed away on Saturday September 9, 2023; after a long battle with dementia. Born in San Antonio, Texas to the late Pablo and Florencia Quiroga on Valentines Day, she was the oldest of 9 siblings.
She was raised and educated in San Antonio, Tx where she met, fell in love with and married Dale F Alford, Sr in February of 1959. The following year the couple would start their family and a few years later move to Belleair, Florida for Dales Job at IBM.
Aurora is survived by her children; Dale F. Alford, Jr “Beau” (son), Judi Alford (daughter-in-law), Lance Q. Alford (son), Lyneen M. Alford (daughter), Terri A. Alford (daughter-in-law); grandchildren: Dale E. Alford “Eddie”, Lauren Aurora Coxhead, Quintin M. Alford “Q” and Sammy Alford; siblings Manuela Flores “Mela”, Juanita Moore “Janie” Ester and Robert Torres. Richard and Virginia “Ginny” Quiroga, Margie Quiroga, and Sharon Quiroga plus 40 nieces and nephews.
Aurora was always a hands-on and present force in the lives of her loved ones. She was a Boy Scout Den Mother, a Girl Scout Leader, on all the PTA boards, a full-time chauffeur to all 3 of her children’s multiple extra curricular activities, as well as a host of other duties. Mom was happiest entertaining others and being surrounded by her family and friends. Although at times the quietest person in the room, she was also the brightest light with her positive nature and beautiful infectious smile being a constant. Always on go, all the while taking great care with each and every person in her life. Aurora loved life, her family and her friends unconditionally and completely. That was just who mom was at her core.
Aurora sold Avon for over 65 years, and was simply “The Avon Lady” to many. She was a successful, well-known realtor for Sheffield Realty in Largo eventually getting her brokers license and opening her own real estate office in Clearwater. She was also the president of La Sertoma of Island Estates for several years. After closing the office, she went onto Chase Home Mortgage in Tampa where she was a team leader in Secondary Marketing for 20 years, while also working part-time in the evenings at Dillards Department Store in customer service for the sole purpose of utilizing the employee discount, which she generously shared with everyone and I do mean everyone.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday February 10th in Clearwater at Moss Feaster Funeral Home (693 Belcher Rd). The doors open at 10:30am and the service will begin at 11am. The service will be short and sweet, just like mom. We would be honored for you to join us in celebrating our mother, Auroras beautiful life.
