Barbara Ann Casey's Obituary
Barbara A Casey, 83, passed into eternal life peacefully, at Westchester Gardens in Clearwater, FL on September 26, 2023.
Barbara was born on September 5, 1940, to Patrick “Sonny” & Mary Casey in Chicago, IL. After graduation from Cathedral High School in 1959 she worked as a corporate secretary for her entire career. Following her retirement, she moved to Palm Harbor, FL.
Despite her diminutive stature, Barbara could fill a room with her joy and kindness. She was a devout Catholic who was active in her parish choir, RCIA and served as a Eucharistic Minister. She loved a variety of crafts, from ceramics to knitting, sewing to needlework, and would generously gift her beautiful creations to family and friends. Barbara loved flowers and would meticulously tend to her violets and potted plants. Her community involvement included volunteering with Palm Harbor Welcome Newcomers and The Garden Club.
After moving to Stratford Court Senior Living, she continued to be active in her community by serving as recording secretary of the Residents’ Council and offering her talent for handmade crafts by working closely with the activities staff assisting on a wide variety of crafting projects and supporting her follow residents. Always eager to help and bring cheer to others, she even agreed to play the role of Santa’s elf at Christmastime!
Barbara loved being part of her community but was especially devoted to her family. She was the youngest of her sisters and the three were very close. She was always the ‘fun aunt’ and anytime her nieces and nephews had the opportunity to spend time with Aunt Barbara, it was going to be wonderful! From weekend overnights to travel companion, Aunt Barbara created special memories for them all. Barbara was blessed to eventually have her sisters join the community at Stratford Court where they would share meals and activities together daily.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents and brothers-in-law: Michael McEvilly and Edward Sepanik. She is survived by her sisters: Kathleen McEvilly and Maureen Sepanik of Palm Harbor; eight nieces and nephews; 20 great-nieces and nephews; many cousins and close friends.
“Fear not, I am with you. I have called you by name; you are mine.” Isaiah 43:1
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Mary Mother of Martyrs (formerly St Mary’s Church) in Des Plaines, IL, followed by internment at All Saints Cemetery. Date and time TBA
The family would like to thank the staff and administration of Westchester Gardens and SunCoast Hospice for the wonderful care Barbara received.
