Barbara Ann Turner's Obituary
Barbara A. (Delisle) Turner, 86, of Dunedin Florida, formerly of Brookfield, MA, passed away Sunday, March 10th at home surrounded by her loving husband of 68 years, Robert and daughters Barbara Turner Delisle (spouse Lawrence O’Connor) and Cheryl Turner.
She was predeceased by her parents Millie and Arthur Delisle.
She also leaves four grandchildren, Jessica Visceto (spouse Daniel II), Todd Shumate, Ryan Shumate, and Joshua Senecal (spouse Rene); seven great grandchildren, Daniel Visceto III, Lyla Senecal, Ricky Lazo, Leah Senecal, Brayden Oldiges, Zacharie Kalt, and Mady Oldiges; and her personal care giver Darlene Hiemerl.
Barbara offered her services to the community in many ways. She was a leader of the Girl Scouts, volunteered in several capacities (including church treasurer) for the Brookfield Congregational Church, was instrumental in the historic restoration of the Congregational Church, and served on the town recreational committee.
As her children transitioned out of the home she took a job at Old Sturbridge Village in the Educational Building and then went on to work at Shawmut Worcester County National Bank where she became branch manager after attaining a degree in business from Quinsigamond College. Upon retirement she took a position as administrative assistant for the Brookfield Congregational Church. Additionally, while her children were young she was a swimming instructor at a local girl shout Camp and at South Pond.
Barbara and Bob enjoyed square dancing, camping, golfing, and traveling together. In the mid 90’s they began spending time in the Clearwater area of Florida, eventually settling at Glen Ellen Mobile Park where they became very active members. Barbara served on the Board of Directors as treasurer, created an entertaining and informative monthly newsletter, led chair yoga and ran a weekly craft night.
Barbara loved and was good at many sports. She played on the basketball team while at Brookfield High School, and also enjoyed playing softball, tennis, bowling, golfing, ice skating, swimming, yoga and meditation throughout her life. She was an accomplished quilter and crafter and was an incredible gardener right up until her final years.
