Bernard Clark King's Obituary
Bernard Clark King, 91, of Dunedin passed away May 27, 2017. Clark was born on November 4, 1925 in Owosso, Michigan to John H. and Juliette King. He was the youngest of 8 children.
He graduated from St. Michaels High School in Flint, Michigan and later received his B.A. and M.A. from the University of Michigan. Clark also studied at McGill University in Montreal and the University of Mexico. In August of 1956, Clark married the love of his life, Agnes Evarista (Ristie) King. He taught high school in Grand Blanc, Michigan and worked for Buick Motor Division before entering Foreign Service (USIS). He served in Bolivia, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Argentia, Uruguay, Colombia, Mexico, and finally in Washington D.C.. He was also a WWII Veteran who was in action in Bastogne, Remagen Bridge, Rhine, Eastern Germany, and the Czech Border. Clark moved to Dunedin, Florida in 1985.
He served as lector at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church as well as on the Parish and Liturgical Councils. He volunteered at the soup kitchen for 14 years, was a five year volunteer on the Dunedin Firemen Pension Board, volunteer on the parks and recreation committee and environment committee. Clark enjoyed bridge, golf, guitar, art, classical music, opera, and played violin in the University of Michigan Symphonic Orchestra. Above all, Clark was dedicated to his faith and his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ristie, his parents, his brothers and sisters and their spouses.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Friday, June 23rd at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Clark will be inurned at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Clearwater, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Maryknoll Fathers (https://maryknollsociety.org) or the Midwest Jesuit Society (https://jesuitsmidwest.org)
