Betty Evans' Obituary
Betty Faris Evans, aged 98 years passed away on April 14th, 2025, at Palm Garden of Clearwater Nursing Care Center. She was born on May 28th, 1926, in Washington, Iowa to Marie Luella and Cloyce Charles Faris. She attended a one room rural school near Keota named Pleasant Ridge School for eight years and then attended Keota High School. After graduating she enrolled at the University of Iowa for two years before moving to Des Moines, Iowa in 1946 to take a job with a company called Solar Aircraft. In February 1947 she met her future husband George Phillips Evans on a bus trip back to Des Moines after visiting her parents. He was returning from his mother’s funeral in West Virginia to finish medical school at Still Osteopathic College. They were married on April 9th, 1948. They then moved to Premier, West Virginia where George took over his father’s coal company medical clinic for a time. After anesthesia internships in Kansa City Missouri, Columbus, Ohio and back to Kansas City they moved back to Des Moines from 1953 until 1957. In 1957 they moved to Tampa, Florida and then to Largo, Florida where they lived from 1959 until 1981 in a house they built. They then moved to a townhouse in 1981, and enjoyed many years of travel with friends in their RV.
After 54 years of marriage, George passed away May 2,2002 and Betty moved to Regency Oaks in Clearwater, where she led an active life for many years, until a decline in her health earlier this year.
Betty was a full-time homemaker as well as an active and generous community member. She was a member of Northwood Presbyterian Church in Clearwater. She was a lifelong member of the National T.T.T Society and served as president of the local chapter. As a Red Cross volunteer, she worked many years at Bay Pines Veterans Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida. She also managed the family and medical business finances and was a member and past president of the Suncoast Hospital Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents Marie and Cloyce Faris, her husband Dr. George P. Evans Jr., and her youngest son Robert P. Evans.
She is survived by her daughter Judith Lynn Evans of Oldsmar, Florida, her son and his wife, Evan and Kressa Evans of Iowa City, Iowa, her granddaughter Jessica Evans and her husband Brian of St. Petersburg, Florida, and her grandson Andrew and his wife Jessica of Dunedin, Florida.
The funeral will be held June 12th, 2025 at 11am, at Moss Feaster Funeral Home 1320 Main St., Dunedin, Florida.
The burial will follow at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park in Clearwater, Florida
