Betty Lou Gregson's Obituary
“Well done, good and faithful servant... Enter into the joy of your Lord.” – Matthew 25:23
Betty Gregson, a devoted wife, loving mother, and faithful servant of God, passed away peacefully during the early morning hours of October 17 at the age of 97. She leaves behind a legacy of unwavering faith, hard work, and love.
Born on February 10, 1928, in Portageville, MO, to Hugh and Aleene Bumpus, Betty dedicated her life to her family, her church, and her community. She married Willis, the love of her life, on April 20, 1951, and for 43 years until Willis passed they had a union built on mutual respect, shared values, and enduring love. Together, they raised five children, instilling in them the importance of faith, responsibility, and compassion. And together they were determined to help all their children go to college. Since this was something Betty had personally wanted to do but could not afford, it was a special source of pride to see each of her children and grandchildren all have this opportunity.
A true believer in the Word of God, Betty lived out her faith daily, not only through church attendance and service but through her actions — quiet acts of kindness, wise counsel, and a deep commitment to doing what was right. She remained active in her church throughout the decades, teaching Sunday school, attending bible studies and supporting missions and ministries with a humble heart.
Frugal by nature and wise in stewardship, she found joy in simplicity and contentment in providing for her family. She made the most of what she had and always had a meal for anyone who visited, even without notice. For years on weekends, she and Willis gathered to play dominoes with couples from church, taking turns at hosting the event and always serving dessert afterwards, usually fresh baked.
For her whole adult life, Betty carried on family traditions and kept her home filled with warmth, laughter, and the scent of home-cooked meals. She remained involved in community and church activities well into her 90’s, until health concerns began limiting her mobility. She was still driving at 91, picking up her 100-year-old friend every week to volunteer at the church library. She will be remembered for her strength, her quiet generosity, her love of scripture, and her unwavering presence. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Betty is survived by her loving children, Mark (Mary) Gregson, Stephen (Debbie) Gregson, Mary (Roger) Rayburn, Martha Gregson and Tim Gregson, 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and sisters, Wilma Jo Allen and Linda (Chuck) Golden.
A celebration of her life will be held on October 25, 2025 at Moss Feaster Funeral Home, Clearwater, FL at 12:30 pm with visitation preceding it at 11:30 am, and internment at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park, Clearwater, FL.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to The Boaz Project Orphan Care Ministry or Billy Graham Library.
