Beverly Jo Andrews' Obituary
ANDREWS, Beverly Jo, 86, of Tarpon Springs, Florida passed away on October 2, 2022. She was born in Tacoma, Washington on September 3, 1936 and was raised in the Pacific Northwest by her parents, the late Verna and Jonas Rasmussen. She was also proceeded in death by her brother, Richard, and several close aunts and uncles that had emigrated from Norway and Sweden to the United States years earlier.
After high school graduation, she moved across the country with her church pastor and his family to the Washington, D.C. area, where she cared for the pastor’s children and served as the church accompanist.
She became Executive Assistant at Melpar, where she was introduced to her future husband, John Andrews. They were married on 12/29/1961 and spent 60 happy years together.
John and Beverly shared the same birthday, September 3rd, a fun fact they often shared with new friends and acquaintances.
The couple was blessed with two children, Rita and Ken, who grew up in Maryland, New Jersey and Virginia while the family followed John’s career with IBM.
Beverly is survived by her husband, John Andrews, her daughter, Rita Schnell (Michael), son Kenneth Andrews (Dironah), grandsons Austin and Trevor Schnell, and in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Beverly worked in graphic design at several firms and owned her own graphic design business for several years. She enjoyed church music and played piano, organ, and even took harp lessons for a time.
Beverly was very creative and she shared her talents with her daughter, Rita, and many friends. Local artisans showcased her creations, including handmade candles and decorated cakes. Her beautiful crocheted afghans provided comfort for veterans, the elderly and those who were ill. Members of her family and friends also treasured her gifts.
John and Beverly moved to Florida in 2000 to live near their daughter, Rita, her husband, Mike, and grandsons, Austin and Trevor, who brought immense joy to her life. She enjoyed taking her grandsons to music lessons, Tae Kwon Do, and cheering at their basketball games. They made gingerbread houses and holiday cookies together every year with Great Grandma’s recipe. Sticking to her Scandinavian roots, Beverly also made the same Norwegian and Swedish cookies she made as a young girl.
Her kindness, love, compassion and dedication to her family, as well as to people from all walks of life, will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Alzheimer’s Association through alz.org or Suncoast Hospice suncoasthospice.org are appreciated.
