My Mother's younger sister, my Aunt Sadie (Sarah Schoen) emigrated to the USA in 1947, marrying Uncle Art Schoen. Granny Blair, although she never saw her daughter or her family again, kept every photograph, sent by Aunt Sadie, on top of a dresser so that I grew up watching my American cousins, Maureen, Blair, Karen and Scott grow up through these photographs.
Some time ago, about 30 years ago in fact, Cousin Blair phoned out of the blue to say he was in the Navy, stationed in Iceland and said he would be coming to Scotland and would like us to meet up.I live in the Highlands of Scotland in Kingussie. I was thrilled and went to meet him at the railway station. He had two colleagues with him but I had no difficulty in recognising him. He seemed to know me too and we ran to each other. We talked and talked as though we had always been in touch. Blair and his friends stayed overnight and we got on so well. I still have the souvenir plate he gave us.
Aunt Sadie was 13 years old when my brother Blair was born and she chose the name 'Blair' for him so it was no surprise when cousin Blair was born that she chose that name for her first son.
I have very fond memories of that occasion in Kingussie. That was the only time I met Blair and it made a lasting impression on me.
I am just very sad to hear of his sudden death, We send our love and condolences to our American cousins and hope we can keep in touch.
Love
Morag, Jim and family
