Catherine Lyon Shackton's Obituary
Catherine L. (McKenzie) Shackton, 76, passed away peacefully in her home where she started her family in 1967. Born June 10, 1948, in Dunedin, Florida, Catherine was a life-long resident of Pinellas County, graduating from Clearwater High School and attending St. Petersburg Junior College’s School of Nursing. She worked in the newspaper business for 35 years, retiring from the Tampa Bay Times, where she served in news, advertising, and marketing administration as well as in human resources. Before that, she was a proofreader at the Clearwater Sun for 10 years. She was a member of St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church and former member of The Mayflower Society and the Daughters of the American Revolution. In recent years, Catherine enjoyed reading, taking care of her cats, working in her garden, thrifting, and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Shackton, whom she was married to for 51 years before he passed in 2018 as a victim of the Camp Lejeune toxic water. She is survived by her three boys, Thomas (Alexandria), Timothy (Leah), and William (Elizabeth); her twin brother, Steve McKenzie (Diane); two sisters, Pat McKenzie and Peggy McKenzie Hanson; nieces, Katherine Preble (Jay), Christy Fox (Dave), and Jennifer Hanson; a nephew, Brian McKenzie (Julie); as well as grandchildren Lauren, Christian, Patrick, Graham, Benjamin/Katherine, Liam, Sam, Mackenzie, Bella, Olivia, and Heath; and great grandchildren Mila and Jude. Services will be held at Moss Feaster Funeral Home on Saturday, October 19th, 2024, at 9:00 AM, followed by a burial at Calvary Cemetery.
