Cecelia Rose Davis' Obituary
CECELIA ROSE DAVIS
1916 TO 2016
Cecelia Rose was born in Point of Rocks, Maryland, and was raised in Sykesville, Maryland. For a brief time, she worked at Springfield State Hospital before moving to Hyattsville, Maryland, with her first husband, Gordon Randolph "Joe” Arrington. Joe worked for the C & P Telephone Company for 20 years prior to his death in 1958.
Rose worked as a stock representative for the C & P Telephone Company in Washington, D.C., before for she retired to Clearwater, Florida, with her second husband, Howard Davis. Rose and Howard joined Peace Memorial Presbyterian Church in Clearwater in 1963.
Rose was a volunteer at Morton Plant Hospital for over 25 years with more than 12,000 hours of service and was selected Volunteer of the Year in 1988. In 2005, Rose received Honorary Membership into Morton Plant's distinguished Donald Roebling Society, recognizing her 25 years of service.
She continued to volunteer until her 90th birthday when she moved to Northern Virginia to live with her daughter and son-in-law. She thoroughly enjoyed her five years in Virginia. Rose loved to travel, visit her 7 great-grandchildren and attend concerts and theater events. She was also a voracious reader of history.
Rose leaves behind her daughter and husband, Mary and Stephen, her four grandsons, James, Michael and his wife, Donna, Patrick, Jeffrey and his wife, Kate, and her seven great-grandchildren, Christopher, Michael, Hannah, Lexis, Lacie, and Lexis' and Lacie's mother, Jenny, Ryan and Lauren. Rose also leaves behind her close cousins, William and Jenny Wilcox.
Rose was a 60-year-plus member of The Eastern Star.
Mother was a tremendous role model for her family with a quiet dignity that demonstrated the proper way to lead one's life. A love of family, a respect for others, and a dedication to the needs of society...Mother will be proudly and lovingly remembered.
In lieu of flowers: Contributions to the Davis Memorial Education Fund would be appreciated.
