Charlie was an outstanding Master Gardener volunteer and it has been an honor to know him. I loved seeing him at the gardens and talking about plants and our other mutual interest, swimming. Charlie will be greatly missed by myself and his entire Master Gardener family. My condolences.

I met Charlie Kohnken sometime around 2008 at the Florida Botanical Gardens. He was working as he did every Tuesday morning in the tropical fruit garden, a place he loved. As I later learned Charlie and other fellow master gardeners played a big role in the establishment of the tropical fruit garden. Charlie and I hit it off and he invited me to join the “Banana Boys” as the volunteer crew is so fondly referred to. Over the years I grew to know Charlie and learned of his love for plants, swimming, sports and of course Marge and his family. His indeed was a life well lived! I will miss my mentor and buddy. Rest in Peace my friend.
