Charles G. Schult's Obituary
Charles George "Chuck" Schult, a former Marine, was in the 3rd Wave to arrive at Iwo Jima and a fighter pilot, flying F4U Corsair aircraft in the Korean War. After being injured when his plane was hit he was in Bethesda Naval Hospital for six months and then he was given the duty of escorting the Marine war casualties to their various home towns. Chuck worked, in the late 1960's, as a Sheriff's detective in Memphis, Tenn. were he was part of the initial investigation of the 1968 murder of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and he and his detective partner flew to Heathrow Airport in England to retrieve James Earl Ray (the person who killed King) and returned Ray to the States. He retired from a steel company after 42 years and served on the fire district commission since the late 1990's. He is survived by wife Louise (Breault) and son's Charles Jr., Richard (Diane), and Daniel (Susan); Grandchildren Lisa and Laurie, Richard Jr., Michael, Marcus, and Ashley; Stepdaughter Denise (Michael); Grandchildren Emilie, Hilary, triplets Jesi, Jason, and Jake.
