Charlotte Murphy's Obituary
Dr. Charlotte Murphy, age 56, passed away on September 30, 2022, in Clearwater, Florida. She grew up in Pasadena, California, where she attended Mayfield Senior School. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from UC Berkeley and received an MPH from UCLA and her medical degree from UCSD. Charlotte always had a strong spirit of independence and adventure. She was passionate about improving the lives of individuals and families and helped many people through her involvement in public health initiatives and her career as a psychiatrist. Charlotte worked in Bolivia and Nigeria (as a Peace Corps member) on public health projects as well as a high school health counselor before receiving her MD. As a psychiatrist, she cared for many patients at homeless shelters and at women's prisons, as well as in private practice. Charlotte loved to read and had a keen and wide-ranging intellect. She was known for her love of animals and was devoted to the many pets she owned over her lifetime. She loved the outdoors, especially walks with her dogs in natural areas as well as kayaking. Charlotte is survived by her mother, Rosalie M. Murphy, her sister, Rosalie Selinger Murphy, her brother, James T. Murphy, and her nephew and niece Nathan Selinger and Margaret Selinger. Charlotte was predeceased by her father, James M. Murphy, and her sister, Margaret Murphy Bernard.
