Christopher John Carroll's Obituary
Christopher J Carroll
5/11/1964 – 3/12/2016
Chris was born in Washington and spent most of his first ten years there, except for trips to Alaska to visit his maternal grandparents, Leonard and Eleanor House. At the age of 10, Chris, his two brothers, and their mother moved to Fairbanks, Alaska to become part of the Art and Suzanne Carroll family of nine. He spent his elementary school years at Denali, then on to Ryan and Lathrop.
At an early age Chris showed interest and skills in mechanics so his first job was at George Campbell’s bicycle shop on Farewell St. in Fairbanks. He also worked on many go-carts, motor bikes and snow machines of course! His really fun times were spent at Summit Lake with the family snow machining with his brothers and sister or with the Lanni family who owned and operated Summit Lake Lodge.
Later in his teens, Chris worked for B&B Automotive and then for the Fairbanks Daily News Miner as a mechanic. Shortly after that he followed a girlfriend down to Clearwater, FL where he found the weather, ocean waters and fishing to his liking. He spent the rest of his life in Clearwater, except for visits back to Alaska. As in Fairbanks, Chris was into mechanics in Clearwater and became his friends’ go-to guy for anything mechanical.
Chris worked at United Sign Co. near Clearwater for 18 years making signs of all types that were sold and shipped all over the world. He said he enjoyed that work because it was not too repetitious.
In 1994 Chris met Tina, his wife. They bought a home together, then married, and now have a beautiful 14 year old daughter named Chloe. Chris, Tina, and Chloe and friends enjoyed boating and fishing in the waters off the coast of Clearwater.
Chris died unexpectedly of natural causes in the early hours of March 12, 2016. We will miss his abilities as well as his engaging smile.
He was preceded in death by one sibling, Kenny Carroll. He is survived by his wife Tina Carroll; daughter Chloe Carroll, son Nate Buswell, all of Clearwater, FL; his brothers Rod, Peter, David, and Arthur; sister Loa Carroll-Hubbard and parents Art and Suzanne Carroll. All are in Fairbanks, Alaska except Arthur currently in Clearwater.
A memorial service is set for Chris at 11:00 am Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Moss Feaster Funeral Home, 1320 Main Street, Dunedin, FL 34698. Chris’s ashes will be laid to rest next to his grandparents at a graveside service in Fairbanks, Alaska later this summer, with some ashes spread near his favorite fun area, Summit Lake, Alaska.
