Clarence William Brown Jr.'s Obituary
Clarence “Brownie” William Brown, Jr., 90, of Safety Harbor, FL, passed away Monday, November 26, 2018, at Mease Countryside Hospital, Safety Harbor, FL. He was born on December 7, 1927, in Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania, to the late Clarence William Brown, Sr. and Anna Janesko.
Brownie served in the US Navy during World War II. After the war, Brownie married Lora Rose Costa and raised five children while working for the US Postal Service. Brownie was always active in his local Catholic church, serving in many ministries through the years. Brownie was also a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a Fourth Degree Knight and was honored as the Sir Knight of the Year in 2017 of Assembly 2474 at Espiritu Santo Church in Safety Harbor, FL.
After retirement he worked as a volunteer with FEMA, traveling to disaster areas to assist many people in need. He also volunteered at the local senior center and spent many hours serving at Knights of Columbus charitable events.
Brownie enjoyed dancing, particularly to country western music. He loved racquetball, bowling, pool, cards, and board games. He also loved to keep active and was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying many hiking and camping trips with his family.
Brownie is survived by his beloved wife, Carmela Lydia Guardo Vella; his children with his late wife, Lora Rose Costa Brown, including one son, Allen Brown (wife Irene); four daughters: Carole Holtz, Elizabeth Brown, Mary Tokarz (husband Jim) and Grace Cyr (husband Carl); step-daughters Karen Kelley (Col. Brian Kelley) of Woodbridge, VA; Wanda Quist (husband Dr. Timothy Quist) of Goshen, IN; and Joyce Livaich (husband Tony) of McKinney, TX; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Flora Guardo (Tom Inferrera).
Friends may call from 2 pm - 4 pm on Sunday, December 9, 2018, at Moss Feaster Funeral Home, 693 South Belcher Road, Clearwater, Florida. A Funeral Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, December 10, at Espiritu Santo Catholic Church, 2405 Philippe Parkway, Safety Harbor, FL 34695. Burial will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery in Clinton, Connecticut.
