Danai K Vrakas' Obituary
VRAKAS, Danai (Yia Yia, Sclavounos) 90, passed in the comfort of her home on Thursday, July 2nd. She joins her grandson, Michael Williams in heaven.
Danai Vrakas was born in Filiatra, Greece on July 5, 1924. She married Amelianos (Mike) Sclavounos in Greece and in 1948 moved to Chicago, Illinois. One child, Maria Sclavounos was born to this union. The family moved to Joliet, Illinois were they became restaurant owners. They sold their business and moved to Clearwater beach, Florida in 1973. After Mike Sclavounos death, Danai married John Vrakas. They were happily married for over ten years. Danai leaves behind her daughter Maria Sclavounos, step sons and daughters, and step grandchildren.
Mrs. Vrakas was a member of The Daughters of Penelope and The Philoptihos Society for over 50 years. She was a devoted member of St. Stefanos Church and volunteered with cooking and baking for church festivals and bake sales. Danai gave generously of herself and was supportive of the Greek Orthodox charities. Danai loved to entertain in her home, her passion was baking and cooking. She enjoyed friends stopping by and sharing her new recipes. Her hobbies were sewing for others, crocheting and making beaded floral arrangements. Mom also had a “green thumb” and loved taking care of her orchid collection.
Dania Vrakas cherished mankind and her friends, she made everyone feel important. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Services will be held at St. Stefanos Church Tuesday July 14th 11am at 3600 76th Street North, St. Petersburg, with burial to follow at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park.
