David L. Zahn's Obituary
David L. Zahn, 78, of Bradenton, Florida, passed away on August, 23, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents Vern and Hannah Marie (Dyste) Zahn of Northfield, MN. Devoted husband of 56 years to Jennifer Zahn (Ansburg). Adoring father of Andrew Zahn (Kathy) and Sarah McShane (Matthew). Beloved grandfather to Liam (20) David (18) Charlie (18) Matthew (15) and Emmett (15). Loving brother of Roger Zahn (Anne) and Janet Zahn (Jeff Moe). Treasured uncle of many nieces and nephews.
David attended New Ulm High School in Minnesota and soon after received his Bachelor of Arts from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, where he was a 3-year starter on the basketball team. He went on to receive his Masters in Education from Chicago State University. David was a proud public educator for 32 years serving the Thornton Fractional North community as a special education teacher. One of his favorite roles in the district was being the varsity golf coach for 30 years as well as a girls basketball coach. David was a member of the Calumet City Lions Club and consistently looked for ways to serve and improve his community.
David was larger than life in every way that mattered. His generosity of spirit and kindness were unmatched. He was a history buff; there was no need for an encyclopedia in the Zahn home. David loved debating politics, was the master of the drop step, the long drive, the Five Iron into the hill chip and run, a renowned launcher of children into pools, oceans and lakes, was wildly dedicated to his students, and loved exchanging ideas with friends. Above all, he was a proud Papa and spent most days doting on his five grandsons. For those who had the pleasure to know and love him, he will be missed dearly.
