Dolores Jean Dover's Obituary
Dolores Jean Dover passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 2nd, 2020 in Palm Harbor, FL in the presence of her daughter and surrounded by her whole family via telephone. She was 88 years old.
Dolores was born in Pitcairn, PA on July 1, 1931 to John and Lois (Maines) Golick. She spent the majority of her life in Pitcairn. She attended school at Pitcairn 1 and 2 and graduated from Pitcairn High School in 1949. In November 2019 she moved to Florida to be closer to her daughter and family.She was also a member at St. Michael's Catholic Church.
She married Alfred Laurence Dover at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Pitcairn on February 9th, 1952 and together they raised their daughter Catherine and son John in Pitcairn. Along with the important job of mother raising her children, Dolores had a long career in the insurance field, working at Summers Insurance Agency, F. Lee Africa Insurance Agency and Thompson Insurance Agency.
Volunteerism was always at the heart of what Dolores did. She was a very active member of Pitcairn Volunteer Fire Company #2’s Ladies Auxiliary and often worked at her parish, St. Michael’s Catholic Church. After retirement she volunteered for many years at Forbes Regional Hospital in the mail room. She loved volunteering because she was always able to meet and talk to new and old friends while making mail deliveries to the patient floors. Among her other hobbies she loved bowling, cooking, taking care of her yard and tomato plants. She was known for her homemade fudge, deviled eggs, ham salad, spaghetti and Croatian delicacy, kabunsa. Up until recently Dolores loved visiting her families in Florida and Minnesota for holidays and birthdays.
She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred Dover, with whom she loved making small trips and spending time at their camper in the Laurel Highlands. She was also preceded in death by her parents John and Lois Golick and her sister Charlene (Golick) Quinter.
Dolores is survived by her daughter Catherine Bence of Palm Harbor, FL and her son John (Traci) Dover of Two Harbors, MN. She is also survived by her grandchildren Joe (Ashley) Bence, Vanessa (Timothy) Saneewong, John (Katie) Dover and Elizabeth Dover, as well as her great grandchildren Atticus and Sabine Bence, and Samuel and Lane Dover. She also leaves behind loving sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews and many good friends.
A mass and celebration of her life will take place at a later date in Pitcairn, PA.
