Donald Roy Stere, 91, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 2nd in Dunedin, FL. He was born in Altoona, Pennsylvania on July 22, 1923 to Elsie I. (Beals) and George E. Stere. He had 2 brothers (Fred & George) and 2 sisters (Sarah & Virginia), deceased.
Donald graduated from Altoona High School in 1941. He took pride in his military service during World War II, serving with the U.S. Army Engineers in the Pacific Theater, with duty stations in Australia, New Guinea, Japan, and the Philippines. He later graduated from Penn State University in 1953 with a degree in architecture.
Donald married Lillian Sarah Monahan in 1953 and moved to Clearwater in 1955, where they were happily married for nearly 62 years. He was a loving and proud father of three daughters and one son. He is survived by his wife Lillian, daughters Ellen Stere (John) of Tallahassee, FL, Gail Stere of Parker, CO, Carol Purchell of Tarpon Springs, FL, and son Gary Stere (Mitzi) of Jacksonville, FL, along with grandchildren Andrew and Katie Stere.
Don enjoyed being an architect and worked for several firms in Clearwater. He also taught drafting classes at the St. Petersburg Junior College, before retiring in 1990. He loved trips to the beach, waterskiing, boating, and landscaping.
Visitation will be held Thursday March 5 , 2015 from 1 to 3pm. immediately followed by a memorial service at 3 pm , at the Moss Feaster Funeral Home, 693 S. Belcher Rd, Clearwater. Donald will be laid to rest at the Alto Reste Park Cemetery in Altoona, PA.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the DAV (Disabled American Veterans).
