Dorothy W. Ingram's Obituary
With great sadness - and equal joy - her family shares that Dorothy W. Ingram (Dottie to all) passed peacefully into the arms of God on April 27, 2024. She died in her adopted home of Dunedin, Florida after moving there in 2019 from Pittsburgh, PA, where she was born in 1929 and lived most of her life.
Dottie was preceded in death by her parents, sister Claire, brother Dean, her husband Sam Ingram, son-in-law Les, and many friends she lost over the years.
She is survived by her three daughters Jan Smith, Jill Porto (Bob), Judi Adkins (Butch), and special niece Beverly Smith. Her beloved grandchildren Nathan, Sarah, Aaron, Heather, Megan, David, Christopher, Austin, Noah, and Jesse, and her 13 great grandchildren will all miss their lively Grandma and “GGMa”.
After graduating from Westminster College with a business degree, she married her beloved Sam with whom she shared 63 years; together they traveled and enjoyed friends, church, music and family until his death in 2013.
Dottie loved mothering; not only her own three daughters, but also Sam’s niece, and numerous young people who needed a place to live for months or years became family. She was a long-time committed member of Memorial Park Presbyterian Church where she served in numerous leadership and servant roles. After years of being a homemaker, Dottie began a mid-life career in office administration for Presbyterian Media Missions. Throughout her years of “wintering” in Florida and then making it her full-time home, she became a joyful member of First Presbyterian Church of Dunedin, and found a special community of friends at the Edgewater Arms condominiums where she lived.
All who encountered Dottie knew that her greatest delight was in the relationships she developed and maintained along the way, and her kind, joyful and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.
There will be a private internment next to Sam in the Allegheny County Memorial Park Cemetery, and a celebration of Dottie’s life will take place at First Presbyterian Church of Dunedin on Saturday, May 11 at 3 pm. The service will also be available to be streamed live for those unable to attend; the link will be available on the First Presbyterian Church of Dunedin’s YouTube channel on that day, which can be found at www.fpcdunedin.org/media.
Because of Dottie’s love for helping other people, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to either of her favorite missions, For Haiti with Love, www.forhaitiwithlove.org, or Mission Vision, https://mission-vision.org, or to one of her precious church communities, Memorial Park Church in McCandless PA or First Presbyterian Church of Dunedin.
