Dorothy Whitsel's Obituary
Dorothy Higgins Whitsel of Palm Harbor, FL. Passed away on February 22, 2015. After complications culminating from her declining health. Dot, as her family and friends called her, lived a full active life of 90 years.
Dot was born in Philadelphia PA, where she was married to Frank B Higgins Sr. a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in WWII. She started her family there, where she had her first son Alan, she cared for him while Frank was overseas. Dot, subsequently gave birth to her daughter Donna and moved her family to Upper Southampton, Bucks County PA where they had their third child, Frank Jr.
Dot raised her family and was a pioneer of the working Mom for many years. Working in electronic manufacturing at various different plants. Dot used to play the piano a bit and sang with a beautiful vibrato. She enjoyed entertaining her friends and family at her home for holidays, summer picnics, and many Saturday nights.
Dot was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Gordon and her sister Stella Obermeyer and her first husband Frank B Higgins, Sr. Dot was also preceded in death by her second husband Jay Whitsel also a veteran of the U.S. Army. Dot enjoyed many years with Jay as they traveled back and forth between Palm Harbor FL and Ocean City NJ. Dot was also a pillar of strength during the care of both of her husbands as their health declined until they passed.
She was survived by her three children and their spouses, Alan and his wife Debra, Donna and her husband Keith, and Frank Jr. and his wife Alyson. Dot was also survived by her step-son Ron Whitsel and his wife Lynne. As well as several grandchildren, Kristi, Lee Anne, Jodi, Candice, Alan Jr., Jennifer, Alexandra, Jeffery, Frank III, Zachary, and Nicholas. Also, step-grandchildren Kristin and Kim, including a host of great grandchildren.
We love you, Mom. You will be missed.
