Eleanor Henrietta Brasted's Obituary
Eleanor Brasted was born in Buffalo, NY November 11, 1927 to Arthur Hagner and Viola Diehl. She grew up in Elma, NY.
Eleanor started dating the love of her life and her soul mate, Paul Brasted, in November 1945. They eloped on April 21, 1946. Upon return from their honeymoon in Pennsylvania, their families requested that they get married by a minister. On May 4, 1946 they said “I do” once again, reinforcing the love they had for each other and cementing the relationship that started a 54 ½ year marriage “made in heaven”.
They had three children who they raised in Cheektowaga, NY. For most of her life, she did not work outside the home, allowing her to be there for her children.
Eleanor was predeceased by their son, Gary Brasted in September 1975 and her husband, Paul Brasted in September 2000. Eleanor is survived by their two daughters; Karen Brasted of Safety Harbor, FL and Linda Brasted of Palm Harbor, FL. Gary’s widow, Linda Jones, currently of Iowa, remarried Craig Jones and had two children, Amy Burke and Stephen (Ana) Jones. Eleanor and Paul always treated Amy and Stephen as their “grandchildren” and their daughters as their “great-grandchildren”. Also surviving is her niece, Bonnie (Paul) Benko and their family and Pam Hodgson, widow of her nephew Norman Hodgson and their family.
In anticipation of Paul’s retirement, they purchased a home in Safety Harbor, FL in 1981. Eleanor and Paul were active members of Bethel Lutheran Church, Clearwater, FL where she volunteered as a greeter, counter, a member of the Board of Finance and on the Gifts and Greens Committee. They were also very active in the Telephone
Pioneers of America, overseeing the making and distribution of thousands of “hug-a-bears” for children brought into the local hospital emergency rooms and they volunteered for Hospice and Meals-on-Wheels.
After Paul passed, Eleanor found her purpose in life volunteering and driving the Care Lift vans for Morton Plant Hospital, Mease Dunedin Hospital and Mease Countryside Hospital for 16 years. Over that time, she accumulated over 15,670 volunteer hours. She also volunteered assembling Braille Bibles for Lutheran Braille Workers, Inc.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Eleanor’s memory to: Bethel Lutheran Church, 3166 McMullen Booth Rd, Clearwater, FL 33761 or to Suncoast Hospice Foundation, 5771 Roosevelt Blvd., Clearwater, FL 33760.
