Eleanor Davenport's Obituary
Eleanor Gwinn Davenport, 80, of Clearwater, FL, passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2023, in the company of her immediate family.
Eleanor was born on October 2, 1942, in Rainelle, WV, to John Leroy and Mae Etta (Tabor) Gwinn. Much of her early life was spent in West Virginia, including growing up on the family farm in Lockbridge and graduating from Meadow Bridge High School in 1960. Eleanor attended Concord College in Athens, WV, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1965. While attending college, Eleanor met and began dating Ronald Davenport who had also studied accounting at Concord. They wed in Lockbridge, on July 24, 1965.
Eleanor and Ronald first lived in Bluefield, where Mark was born in 1967. After living briefly in Greensboro, NC, the family relocated to Clearwater, FL in 1968. They welcomed their second son, Todd, in 1972.
Eleanor actively participated in the development of her children as a leader in the PTA and Cub Scouts. She inspired and taught her boys to be the best they could be. In the 1980s, she returned to work outside the home as a bookkeeper at Crown and Company CPA, retiring in 2009.
In retirement, Eleanor and Ron discovered a love of travelling, visiting 48 of the U.S. states together as well as numerous international locations. Eleanor’s favorite destination was her home in West Virginia.
Eleanor will be remembered as a loving wife, sister, mother, and grandmother, who treasured having her family gather together for a good meal and conversation. She loved to bake and sew. These skills will live on through her sons, grandchildren, and many others she taught throughout her life.
Eleanor is survived by her husband of 57 years, Ronald; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Dennene Davenport of Clearwater; son and son-in-law, Todd Davenport and Mike Johnson of Minneapolis; beloved grandchildren, Jason and Kristen; sister and brother-in-law, Elsie and Doug Baker of Meadow Bridge, WV; and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, and extended family members.
