Eleanor Lewis Scarfone's Obituary
ELEANOR GRAY LEWIS “NELLIE” SCARFONE: A BEAUTIFUL LIFE WELL LIVED
Nellie was born April 24, 1933, in Louisville, Kentucky to James O’Bryan and Eugenia Octavia (Stewart) Lewis. She passed peacefully on January 18, 2024, at her home in Odessa, Florida.
Nellie moved with her parents to Gulfport, FL in 1947. She attended St. Petersburg High School, where she met her “True Love”, Rosario Carmine Scarfone. They soon married on January 27, 1950. Their family grew to include three sons Rosario, Carmine, Joseph, and one daughter, Eleanor “Ellie” Scarfone.
Nellie lived her life emanating love to all who met her, as she knew no strangers. People were not just friends; they were adopted family. Her smile radiated joy, peace, and happiness.
She enjoyed playing the piano and excelled in it. She would challenge herself to be the best pianist she could be and played in both recitals and competitions. She taught several of her grandchildren to play and appreciate music as she did.
Nellie loved nature! Birds, squirrels, and deer often fed at her back door, bringing her great joy. She loved to go for walks along her quiet, country road, looking up at the sky, smelling the air, and appreciating the trees and the breeze.
She had a direct line to God and felt truly blessed. She read her Bible and prayed daily for family, friends, and even strangers. Her prayers rarely went unanswered.
Nellie loved to travel and chronicled her many trips in detail so that others could enjoy her aspect of the people and places she visited.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Rosario Carmine Scarfone, Sr., her parents, James O’Bryan Lewis and Eugenia Stewart Lewis, as well as her sister, Mildred Joanna Neill.
Nellie is survived by her four children, sons Rosario C. (Karen) Scarfone, Carmine L. (Claudia) Scarfone, Joseph P. (Linda) Scarfone, daughter Eleanor L. “Ellie” Scarfone, five grandchildren, and ten greatgrandchildren.
As she spoke to family and friends before her passing, as she always did, she would say:
“May Angels Surround You and Keep You Safe. I Love You!”
A private burial will be held by her immediate family.
