Eleanor Troutt Smead's Obituary
Eleanor was born and raised in Atlanta. She told stories of riding the streetcar alone at 5 years old, going to the Fox Theater, and helping her father build their house by laying bricks. She spent summers at her mother's family farm in Ashburn, Georgia, where she spent time with her sister March and aunts Louise and Mazie.
At 18, she went off to King College, where she met and married the love of her life, Bruce, who was headed to Seminary and the calling of being a Presbyterian preacher. Eleanor chose being a preacher's wife as her service and she immersed herself in the needs of church members, the church, and the community. She sang in the choir, organized and directed the Children's Choir, helped out with youth groups, baked unleavened bread for Maundy Thursday, to name a few.
She also raised three daughters. She cooked and baked from scratch. She sewed clothes. She nourished Suzanne's interest in music, Deb's in athletics, and Janet's in dance. She planned amazing month-long family summer trips.
Once the children were old enough, she worked at Lake Seminole Presbyterian Church, St Pete Junior College, Presbytery of Tampa Bay and First Presbyterian Church of Dunedin.
Eleanor was widowed at 56, she never remarried. She continued to work at First Presbyterian Church of Dunedin until she retired. She enjoyed traveling quite a bit with friends or family. She liked playing games with friends and family. And of course she loved to eat out. She enjoyed socializing and was active in Sarah's Circle, Meals on Wheels, Faith in Action, and Care Lift, to name a few. Eleanor died at home surrounded by family and friends.
The family wishes to thank those who supported her and her family in her final days. We very much appreciate all that each of you did for us!
Eleanor is survived by daughters Janet Smead, Deb Smead and Suzanne Hartmann. Grandchildren: Jeremy Hartmann, Rebecca Hartmann Adams and husband Ryan. Great grandchildren: Athena and Mason Adams. Sister: March Price and husband James Huey.
A service will be held in the fall, date and time is pending.
