Elsie Louise Shepherd's Obituary
Elsie Louise (Tuttell) SHEPHERD (S.F.O.), 89, of Safety Harbor Fla. passed away Thursday, October 2, 2014. Elsie was born and raised in Bronx, NY. She initially worked as a Bookkeeper at the Railroad Express Agency (REA) until answering the call to serve in the United States Navy Waves during World War II. Elsie received her medical training at USN Hospital Corps School at Hunter College, NY and served in the Naval Hospitals of St. Albans, NY, Sampson, NY, and Brooklyn, NY, caring for the returning wounded servicemen. Upon completion of her service as a Pharmacists Mate Third Class (PHM3) and Honorable Discharge Elsie’s next journey would involve her marriage to her beloved John ‘Jack’ Shepherd and raising a family of 5 children. She devoted herself to her family. Elsie’s love of the medical profession would draw her back to work as an Electrocardiogram Technician (EKG) at Eger Nursing Home in Staten Island, NY. Elsie and Jack relocated from NY to Safety Harbor, Fla. to enjoy the good life and shared many happy years together. She is survived by 5 children Spencer (Debbie) Shepherd, Kathleen (Gene) Petro, John Shepherd, Eloise (Aldo) Khoury and Robert (Michelle) Shepherd; 12 Grandchildren; and 7 Great Grandchildren.
Elsie was a member of the Secular Franciscan Order, St. Francis of Assisi Fraternity.
Visitation is on Friday, October 10 at 4 to 6 PM at Moss Feaster Funeral Home, 1320 Main Street, Dunedin. A Memorial Mass will be on Saturday, October 11 at 12:30 PM at Espiritu Santo Catholic Church, 2405 Philippe Pkwy, Safety Harbor. Interment will follow at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park, Clearwater.
