Ernest Fontes Sr.'s Obituary
Ernest Fontes Sr., 87th year, of Clearwater FL, passed January 3, 2012. He was the son of the late Marion and Rita Fontes of East Providence, RI, is survived by siblings Marie (Mendes), Myron, Rita(Cirella), and Richard, and predeceased by Joseph, Manuel, Alfred, and Raymond.He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-five years, Sylvia, and daughter Donna (Gorton), Leland (husband) and children Jennifer and David and sons Ernest Fontes Jr., Masha (wife) and children Lila,Ernest Eugene, and Andrei; David Fontes, Elizabeth (wife) and children Justin and Lauren; Alan Fontes, Donna (wife) and children Gina and Staci.He was a U.S. Navy veteran who proudly served as a submariner during the Silent Service operations of WWII and the Korean conflict. He often recalled the stories of how his submarine, the U.S.S. Gabilan, rescued downed pilots from the Bay of Japan. He loved spending time with family and enjoyed being with friends. He had an infectious smile and sense of humor that would fill a room with laughter. He enjoyed every moment to the fullest. He will be greatly missed.
