Evangelos C Binios' Obituary
Evangelos Binios passed away in Clearwater, Florida on August 23, 2015 at the age of 82. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Thalia; his daughter Angela and her husband Mark; his daughter MaryAnn; his one and only granddaughter, Avah; his nieces, Angela and Georgia; his nephew, Peter; his grand nieces and nephews; his cousin, Vasili; and the countless friends he made throughout his lifetime.
Evangelos Christos Binios was born on February 28, 1933 in his beloved Tsamantas in Epirus, Greece. His parents, Christos and Angeliki, raised him and his older sister, Marina, to be proud and strong Greeks. Growing up during World War II wasn't always easy for the Binios family. However, Angelo's vivid recollections of his childhood paint a different picture. Through all the turmoil and suffering, Angelo still found ways to have fun with his friends and look at the brighter side of things. Many times, he shared stories about climbing trees and playing outside joyfully. He and his friends even collected grenades that they found left behind by enemy soldiers, not having a clue how dangerous and deadly they were.
By the time Angelo became a teenager, he had moved to the United States determined to create a better life for himself and his family. He lived in Worcester, MA where he quickly looked for work and enrolled in high school. He found a job at Table Talk Pies where he learned how to make some of the best pies in New England. Angelo continued his education by getting his Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering at the local community college. He was very close with his sister, her husband and their three children. He spent a lot of time with his nephew and nieces, and he showed them the American way of life. He loved to take them to the beach and bring them gifts after returning from his various trips.
In 1970, after many years as a bachelor, Angelo surprised everyone when he returned from one of his trips from Greece married to his beautiful wife, Thalia. They soon had their first daughter, Angela, followed by their second daughter, MaryAnn, four years later. Always wanting to own his own business and be his own boss, Angelo opened Town Pizza, a pizzeria in Braintree, MA. He and his wife, Thalia, worked hard and long hours, but that didn't stop them from taking lots of fun vacations to Greece to visit their homeland and relatives.
In 1985, Angelo sold his business and moved the family to Cape Canaveral, FL. Minutes from the beach and living a calmer life brought Angelo much deserved peace and relaxation. Always social and never wanting to lose ties to his culture, Angelo quickly found local Greek friends in the community. Angelo and Thalia raised their two daughters to be smart, independent women. Angelo was always proud of his girls and taught them how to balance a checkbook long before they had a checking account and always made sure there was gas in their cars and air in their tires. He was a proud father and always worked hard to ensure his family was taken care of.
In 2007, Angelo became a grandfather when Angela and Mark welcomed Avah into the world. He loved her dearly and enjoyed playing any games Avah convinced him to participate in. Although his health began to deteriorate, Angelo never complained. In fact, he never thought anything was wrong. His strong will and determination to overcome any obstacle allowed him to live longer than expected and share many more happy memories with his family. Even towards the end, he still wished that he could go back to his favorite place on Earth, Tsamantas. "Pame sto horio?" he'd ask his wife. He never made it back to his birthplace, but he did in his dreams and is now resting peacefully in a far better place watching over all of us.
Evangelos Christos Binios was a family man, a business man, a loyal friend, and a proud Greek man. He was loved by many and will be missed terribly. His hopeful spirit and positive outlook will never be forgotten. May he rest in peace.
