Frederick J. Alexander Jr's Obituary
Frederick Alexander, 75, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday July 9, 2023 in Largo, FL. He was born April 20,1948 in Ithaca NY to Fred Sr and Jacqueline (Thorpe) Alexander who has preceded him in death along with his brother, Paul. He attended University of Tennessee and Cornell University of Hotel management. As much as he loved his hometown, he relocated to Syracuse NY when he decided to live a life of sobriety of which he had 26 years. He met his wife, Nanisi Helu in 1998 while volunteering at the YMCA of Greater Syracuse Area. They married in 2008. Sports, their dogs and laughter were the center of his life. Right after that his greatest pride and joys came from the many children and young adults he coached and mentored at Northeast Community Center where he was a Recreational Director for Syracuse Parks and Recreation. He was known as "Coach" to so many. After retiring in 2013, Fred, Nisi and Dixie moved to St. Petersburg, FL so he could pursue endless sunshine which everyone knows he loved. And of course, he ended up working at the Y there and the City of St. Petersburg Parks and Recreation.
He is survived by Nisi, and their baby dogs Mazikeen and Seraphina. He has gone to be with his fur love, Dixie, where he can feed her pizza crusts without getting in trouble. Fred is also survived by his sister-in-law Salote van Deutekom and her husband Eric, their children Kyah, Tyler and Tehya; mother-in-law, Brenda Helu; father-in-law, Sione Helu Aunt Margie Thorpe; his Uncle Paul "Bud" Thorpe, and his son, Steven Thorpe; sister, Marta Sanders and her 2 children Shanta Sanders and Marcus Sanders; sister Jana (Scot) Taylor and their 2 children Alex (Mary) Taylor and Kaitlyn Taylor; sister-in-law, Carol and her children, Paulie (Paul) Alexander Jr, Nick (Nicholas) Alexander, and Dawn Alexander. Nieces & nephews, Alexis, Alex and Allison Zinkovitch-Helu. Amazing co-workers and life long friends, Ed Mitchell, Katie Stager & Mary Jane Catalfino.
