GEORGE VOLTZOW's Obituary
VOLTZOW, George Richard, 86, of Clearwater, died May 9, 2012, after an extended illness. Born in East Paterson, NJ, son of the late Benjamin and Anna Voltzow, he was a 1948 graduate of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a CPA. He interrupted his studies to serve in the Army in Panama and the Galápagos from 1944 to 1946. He and his first wife, Martha, who predeceased him, moved to Clearwater in 1962. He worked for several accounting firms before serving as Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer of Kapok Tree Inns, Incorporated. A highlight of his career was being present on the floor of the American Stock Exchange when the stock went public. He was a founding member of Highland Presbyterian Church of Largo and an active member of the Financial Executives Association and the Florida West Coast Bromeliad Society. He received the Century of Service Award by the United States Stamp Society in recognition for his lifetime of service as Treasurer of the Society. Over the course of his life he was an avid stamp and coin collector, orchid grower, bromeliad enthusiastic, and lapidary. He donated thousands of stones and plants to local charities and civic organizations. He was a dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Olive, a son Bryon and his wife Gitte, a daughter Janice and her husband Ned Fetcher, and five grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 1, at 11:00 am at Highland Presbyterian Church of Largo, 1885 S. Highland. Donations may be made in his memory to Suncoast Hospice.
