I have many fond memories of Georgie when I knew her at John Calvin Presbyterian Church in Tampa Fl. The memory that speaks eloquently about the kind of person she was is the following:
A little 8 yr old boy (in a wheelchair) & his mom came to our church one Sunday because they had been totally shunned at several churches just because the boy had AIDS.
This was right after Aids had become known of and every one was afraid of it
. He was an innocent victim as he was a hemophiliac who contracted the disease from a contaminated transfusion!
People were so uninformed at that time that his own father had deserted his family!
Georgie, in her capacity of nursing knowledge immediately informed our congregation that we would not be harmed in any way by having him in our midst.
This resulted in complete acceptance of him & his mom.
At the age of 9,his memorial service was a moving & beautiful service attended by members of the Presbytery and a packed church!
I believe it was due to Georgie's stand in behalf of him that allowed that precious boy to be loved & cared for by our congregation until God called him home.
Georgie was the angel that corrected our thinking enough to give that little boy peace for his last days!
This is the kind of loving, caring person Georgie was.
May she rest in well deserved peace.
