Gerard J. Bastarache's Obituary
Gerard J. Bastarache (Gerry a.k.a G-Man) of Clearwater, FL passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side on Sunday, February 4, 2024 after a long courageous eight year battle with Lewy Bodies Dementia with Parkinsons. Born in St.Marie Parish (Kent County) New Brunswick, Canada on March 20, 1947 he was the son of the late Lionel J. Bastarache and Irene (Robichaud) Bastarache. Gerry moved from Canada to Fitchburg, MA in 1964, where he resided with his brother Norman and sister-in-law Esther. Upon his marriage in 1969, he and his wife Alveta were living in Leominster, MA where their only son Marc was born in 1971. In 1975, Gerry moved back to Canada with his wife and son to Richibucto Village, N.B, Canada where they resided for 13 years. After yearning for some milder winters, their final destination in 1988 was to sunny Clearwater, FL. Gerry was a carpenter by trade but was proficient in anything he would do (plumbing, electrical, painting etc,.)….you name it, he could do it. He was a true handy man! He loved to hunt in the fall with his family and friends in Canada. He was an avid bowler, enjoyed fishing on Pier 60 in Clearwater and loved playing cards every Sunday night with friends Dot & Oscar Leger. Gerry was a true Montreal Canadiens hockey fan until the Tampa Bay Lightning came to town, and then he “switched” teams and along with Alveta, they became seasonal ticket holders for many years where they were able to watch the Lightning win the Stanley Cup against the Calgary Flames in 2004. They loved to travel with Marc & Kim, and Las Vegas was always a favorite weekend getaway. After his retirement from the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa as Chief Engineer of Maintenance, he and Alveta spent the summers in Canada from 2010 until 2017, when his illness started to take a toll on his health. Gerry leaves to mourn his beloved wife Alveta (Maillet) Bastarache, his only son Marc (for whom he was extremely proud of) and daughter-in-law Kim, brothers Norman (Esther), Aldeo (Yvette), Ralph (Kathy Mullins), Leo Paul (Elmonde), Guy (Diane), sisters Adela Boudreau, Jeannita Maillet (Roger LaPierre), Anise Burgman (Ted), Diane (Joe Cormier), Norma (Leo Paul Collette), brother in-law Lelice Leger, sister-in-law Shirley Bastarache, many nieces and nephews, and last but not least his beloved dog Sophie. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sisters Aurise Goguen, Jeannine Cote, Adrienne Leger, brother Clarence, brothers-in-law Roger Cote, Eddie Boudreau, Clarence Goguen, Aurele Maillet. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Suncoast Hospice of Pinellas County, FL.A celebration of his life will be held at Moss Feaster Home, 693 S.
