Dr. Harry James “Jim” Free
September 16, 1934 – October 24, 2021
Born in Ludlow, KY, graduated from Simon Kenton HS, moved to FL with family to attend UF, played clarinet in the Gator Marching Band, Member of first graduating class of UF Medical School in 1960, the same year he married Carole, an RN, who he met at Shands Teaching Hospital in Gainesville, served two years as Captain in the USAF in AZ, member of the team that developed Gatorade (the name Jim suggested), practiced internal medicine for 30 years in Clearwater, FL admitting through Morton Plant Hospital, an attentive doctor who served his patients and was devoted to his family. Jim was deeply committed to his community and his Faith. He was an active member and Elder of Trinity Presbyterian Church and volunteer at the Clearwater Free Clinic.
Jim’s joy was his family and friends. He leaves behind, Carole, his best friend and treasured wife of 61 years, his brother Harvey (Jeanne), three grown children, Diane (Chuck) Hanlon, Tom and Doug (Tabitha) Free and nine beloved grandchildren.
We are confident that we will see him again and until then we will miss him dearly and celebrate a great man and a very generous life, very well lived.
Memorial Service at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Clearwater at 1:00 Sunday November 7, 2021. Please wear something Orange and Blue.
