Harvey Lee Jordan, Jr.'s Obituary
Harvey Lee Jordan Jr. of Dunedin, Florida went home to be with God on June 17, 2023. He was born October 21, 1944 in Greenville Mississippi and raised there near the delta of the Mississippi River. Born to Harvey Sr. and Doris, he was an animal lover, owned a horse (Billy) who he rode and brushed every day. He learned guitar at age 15 and played a Fender Stratocaster in a rock-n-roll band in high school. He played trumpet for the high school band. He loved the outdoors and loved to waterski. Harvey was a life-long animal lover.
He served in the Marine Corps from 1965 to 1968. He completed a one-year tour of duty in Vietnam war where he was a machine-gunner. He was the only soldier in his unit who was never badly injured or killed. Harvey aided in rescue efforts carrying his wounded brothers up a mountain where the Medevac was waiting. Because of his valor and bravery he earned their unit three Presidential Honorable Citations and a Meritorious Medal.
After the service, Harv ended up in Ft Lauderdale where he met Barbara who would be his wife for 53 years until his last day. They enjoyed dancing in the Ft Lauderdale clubs in the late 60s. They relocated to Tacoma Washington where their daughter Kim was born. They enjoyed many camping trips at Mount Rainier and adventures in their Jeep. Six years later they left the rain of Seattle and went back to Florida and settled in Dunedin where they lived ever since.
Their love of the outdoors continued in Florida with many camping and canoeing trips. Harvey became an avid Cyclist and rode in cycling marathons. Harv and Barb enjoyed trips to the Florida Keys and a few cruises to the Caribbean where they would snorkel. They also mountain-biked in Colorado. As a family they visited the Smokey Mountains a few times where they would all camp and hike. Harvey was also an avid music lover. He worked for Pinellas County School System as a concrete mason for many years. He retired in 2005. Harvey had a very witty sense of humor.
Harvey was what they call.. “a man’s man” an outdoorsman and a tough soldier yet with a creative soul and a heart for animals and his family… indeed he loved his family very much. He was a giving person and had a helpful nature. Harv’s life was a full life well-lived. Harvey is survived by his wife Barbara, his daughter Kim, his grandson Lenny, and many other family members and friends. He will be sorely missed.
