Henry R. Reyer's Obituary
Henry Richard Reyer – February 1, 1936 – November 21, 2020
Henry Reyer was born on February 1, 1936 in Chicago, IL. Beloved father of son, Mark Stephen Reyer & daughter-in-law, Susan Cannon Reyer, daughter Kimberly Elizabeth Reyer, and daughter Jennifer Lynn (Reyer) Miller & son-in-law Wayne Miller; grandfather to Jonathan, Brittany, Evan, Colin, Briana & Kyler and great grandson, Jace. He was predeceased by his wife of 32 years, Grace Mary Battista. Henry moved to Queens, NY during his childhood, where he helped his parents sponsor many immigrants from Germany, putting them to work in their knitting mill. After graduating high school, he served in the Army from 1956-1958. He and Grace met in NYC at May Company, then married in May 1962 and moved their family to Pompton Plains, N.J. where he was a housewares buyer and later Vice President of Sales for Benjamin and Medwin in New York City. In 1988, he moved his family to Cary, NC where he had a kitchen store’s, Jenny’s Cupboard, and later owned Steve’s Pizza in Goldsboro, NC. Henry was a great storyteller and he seemed to have done every trade possible at some point in his life, from bike repair to fisherman, galley cook, postman in the Army. He loved traveling and enjoyed hosting social events and being an only child did not stop him from making great friends who his children considered their ‘aunts’ and ‘uncles’. But most of all Henry loved his family dearly and was so proud of each of his children and grandchildren. He will be missed dearly.
