Hester R. Thuerk's Obituary
Hester Thuerk (81 years) passed away Nov 28th. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Arthur, her brother, Jim Weston of Kewanee, Il.; her sons Richard and his wife Maggie of Oldsmar, Michael and his wife Judy of Dunedin, Jane Frazier and her husband David of Odessa and Deanne Potter and her husband John of Newton, IL. Survivors also include her grandchildren Jamila Lepore, Michael Thuerk, Lexi Frazier, David J. Frazier and Allyson Squitiro along with three great grandchildren. She graduated from Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, IL with a Master’s Degree in Science. Her certification was Curriculum and Administration. Hester was involved in education over 40 years working with students in elementary education, special education and ending her career as an adjunct professor with St Petersburg College. She was a member of Espiritu Santo Catholic Church and was active in the St Vincent DePaul Society and Alpha Delta Kappa. She felt that her greatest accomplishment was her involvement with creating the Woodridge Illinois Library District that started out with less than 10 books and now houses more than 188,000 volumes. She served as the first President of the Library Board of Trustees. A funeral mass will be held at Espiritu Santo Church Thursday, December 6th at 10:30 am and burial will follow at Bay Pines National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to St Vincent DePaul at Espiritu Santo Catholic Church.
