Hilda Faries' Obituary
Hilda was born January 13th, 1928 in Southampton, Bermuda to Manuel and Annie DeSilva. She was 20 when she married her teenage sweetheart of 5 years, Wendell Faries and together, they made a good life for themselves. They had 2 children, Terence and Cheryl.
The focus of their lives was faith and family and they were both very active in their local church both in Bermuda and later in Florida where they moved in 1973. Hilda spent the majority of her life as a homemaker taking care of her home and family with a few years spent working at P.W.’s in Bermuda when the children were older.
She loved to garden and enjoyed her weekly garage sale outings with her family. There was always something she would find from toys for her grandchildren and Sunday School class to a Hammond organ for herself which she delighted in playing. She had a servant’s heart and when it came to family and church get-togethers, she always would bring some kind of sweets but it was her two signature dishes which everyone loved; macaroni and cheese and marinated carrots.
Later in life, they moved to be closer to her mother and father and she became the main care-giver for both of them in their senior years. Hilda lived a good, long life and two weeks prior to her passing celebrated her 94th birthday with family and friends. She was blessed with mental acuteness right to the end but her body became frail.
She was truly loved by all who knew her and will be sadly missed.
She is survived by brother, Lou DeSilva; son, Terence Faries (Chris), daughter, Cheryl Young (Lawrence); 3 grandsons, Rev. Simon Faries (Julia), Brian Faries (Nicole), Lawrence Young (Danielle; 2 granddaughters, Julie Thatcher (Jonathan), Kerri Eitzen (Markus) and 6 great-grandchildren, Elliott, Iliana, Max, Charlotte, Rileigh and Griffin.
