Hilda was born in Chicago, Illinois to Arnette Virginia Arnold and Durward Jones. She was the second oldest child of eight, She was “little mommy “to Brother Bobby the youngest, and called Susie Q by her mother. At 17 years old she met Robert Palmer and asked him to take her to the movies. They were married on August 31, 1946.
Hilda Rose wore many “hats” in her life, daughter, sister, friend, wife, soda jerk, elevator operator and owner/operator of the Shelby Plaza Motel in Clearwater. But for a long time Bob wanted her to be a Homemaker. Hilda and Bob could not have children of their own and desired a family with all their hearts. It was 10 long years when their hearts were given Love of their first child to adopt Cheryl, the following year another daughter Gail, then 4 years later they were blessed by a son Robert “Bobby”.
Hilda was the best Mom, she raised 3 children with good manners, strong work ethics and a faith in God. She was always involved in groups that served others, American Business Women of Largo, and the Largo Woman's Club. Hilda Rose was extremely kind, generous and sacrificed for any in need. She welcomed sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, and friends to stay in her home while getting back on their feet. She was the “Favorite Aunt” the sweet one. She took a nurse’s aide course and spent a lot of time caring for the elderly shut-ins. Hilda also enjoyed playing golf with the Pinecrest Woman's golf club. She wasn’t the best cook and always burned the rolls, but her baked beans and Swedish meatballs are still a family favorite and shared with friends.
All these memories and sentiments will never encompass the life of such an amazing woman. Her legacy will never be forgotten. Her loving kindness has been deeply rooted within all of her hearts. She will be missed by all.
