Holly Hume's Obituary
Holly Hume (1946-2023), beloved daughter of the late Charles and Lillian Hume, of Largo, Florida, died on May 25 at Largo Medical Center. Although Holly had been ill for several years, she retained an optimism and cheerfulness that were an inspiration to her friends and family. Her wit and her sense of humor, which she regarded as “the Hume birthright”, were unfailing, even in dire circumstances.
Although hers was a quiet and often difficult life, it was remarkable for the strength of her faith and spiritual connection, the scope of her kindness, and generosity towards others. She provided daily emotional and physical support to her father during his final illness. Shortly afterward, she took in an old and ailing friend, and cared for him until his death. Later, after devoting herself to her much-loved Aunt Virginia, she brought her Uncle Kit into her home and cared for him for more than a year, when the alternative would have been a nursing home. Instead, he was surrounded by warmth and love, with a cat on his lap, and a cocktail before dinner.
Holly was predeceased by her friend Jeanine Peters, and survived by devoted caregiving friends: Julia Linn, Maxine Niel, Dakota Sterling-Davis, and Jackie Packwood. She will be missed by her cousins, Karen Armour, of Stamford, CT and Susan Parker of Albuquerque, NM, and their respective children: Julie Armour Jones, Allison Armour-Garb, Timothy Parker, and Nicholas Parker. She is also survived by her brother, Keith Hume.
Memorial is private. Holly’s ashes will be scattered in her favorite places. Contributions in Holly’s memory will be welcomed by the Church of the Ascension, Clearwater, Florida.
