Howard was no doubt the most sincere person to ever serve in the US Congress. He was truly in touch with his constituents and worked tirelessly for the people of his district and of North Carolina.
I first met Howard in 1994 when I started doing a radio show on WSJS. He was a frequent guest on the program and became a great friend. He was always quick to extend his hand in friendship to everyone he met.
Howard always greeted me with warmth and friendship when we ran into each other while out and about. He hosted the radio show in DC on occasion and his staff helped make arrangements for broadcast locations and guests.
Howard, we thank for you service, your wisdom, your leadership and your kindness. Rest in peace, my friend.
