Jacqueline Truitt Haskins' Obituary
Jacqueline T. Haskins passed away peacefully on Nov. 9, 2024, at the age of 94.
Known to everyone as “Jackie,” she was born Aug. 3, 1930, in Hazelwood, N.C, to Verner and Marjorie Truitt. She moved to Newport News during WWII and graduated from Morrison High School. She married Robert “Bobby” Haskins in 1951, and they had one daughter, Janie.
Jackie enjoyed a long professional career, beginning with the County of Warwick and the City of Newport News. In the late 1960’s she became manager of the new Christopher Newport College bookstore, a position she held for 25 years.
In retirement, Jackie was active in the Hilton Junior Women’s Club, contributed to a book about CNU’s founding, and was a longtime resident of the Arbors retirement community. Jackie had a great fashion sense and was always well-dressed. She loved shopping and home décor, and even as her health declined, she never lost her sense of humor.
Jackie is survived by her daughter Janie Haskins, son in law Jim Kammerud, three grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Arthritis Foundation.
