Lt Colonel James D. Bullock's Obituary
Jim received a call from the Highest that he could not refuse. He would be flying high, leaving the earthly bonds and leaving those he so dearly loved behind. So, on August 25, 2023, he passed into a glorious new beginning.
Born in Chicago on July 7, 1929, to James and Loretta Bullock he began his incredible journey in life, often saying "I am the luckiest man alive. My life has been so good, I love my life." The illnesses that came upon him were never a problem, always saying "I feel great". A true warrior to the end.
He was an exceptional athlete in high school, he excelled in football and was rewarded with a scholarship to the University of Iowa. Using what little money he had, he would go to local airports and take flying lessons. That passion for flying led him to join ROTC and then the Air Force. As a young Lieutenant, his first assignment was MacDill Air Forse base, and so began his love of Florida and the water. He served in Korea and spent a year at Takhli in Thailand. Panama and England were his favorites of the many bases in his 20 years of serving. He received commendations and medals for his expertise and leadership in flying and leading as he rose in rank, though he never mentioned his skills to others after his retirement. He then became a Business School Head in North Carolina. His love of sailing and the Florida waters brought him to Dunedin. His days were often spent out sailing. He became a Boat Captain, boat builder, a terrific baker, cook of fine dinners, and lover of wine and exercise. He embraced all with passion. Jim was a member of MOAA, American Legion, Daedalians, Dunedin Boat Club Commodore, Church Usher and Men's club. He loved going to daily Mass.
Left here to miss his ever-warm smile, the twinkle in his eyes and his everlasting love, forever united, is his wife Patricia Mathe Bullock, daughter Jacqueline Szczepanik (Russ), son Jeffrey Bullock (Susan), daughter Kim Halliburton. Grandchildren, Ryan Szczepanik (Julie), Chelsea Bullock Legg (Justin), Chase Bullock (Heather), Kristen Castro (Josh), Katey Szczepanik (Greg Stove), Kelsey Szczepanik (Jack Lewis), and Katherine Halliburton. Also, twelve great-grandchildren and four nieces and nephews. His younger brother, Lee Roy Bullock, preceded him in death.
A Mass will be held September 27, 2023, at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 750 San Salvador Drive, Dunedin, FL. The Military Presentation of the flag will be held before the church service.
